I work with stories at different points in the communcations cycle within digital and natural spaces that connect over many oceans through contracting, products and art. Today’s post is dedicated to my digital work, specifically at the intersection of coaching for individuals and narrative strategy for organizations.
Whenever I work with a client I ask three primary questions to root the work. Depending on whether or not the work is an external story journey or internal, these questions are tailored to clients who are seeking a better understanding of their use of stories (public speaking, online, or internal).
Question #1 for individuals: Have you told yourself story?
Question #1 for orgs: Have you told your audience your origin story?
*Note how the audience is different for an organization vs. individual, although an individual can be running their own business and be asking the same questions. At the 1:1 leadership level, the inward journey also can come up if it’s a professional development journey or career change.
Question #2 for orgs & individuals: What communications tools best compliments your ideas? Can your desired audience access those spaces?
Question #3 for individuals: What is the internal infrastructure to help you communicate your needs, ideas and calls to action?
Question #3 for orgs: What personnel resources do you have to execute your vision and communications strategy within your desired timeline?
While this list seems to be simple-worded questions, they are not simple questions to answer. The art of asking questions deserved a space not only for inquiries but for, “I don’t know,” as a way to guide the work and serve as an invitation to create space to go inward.
Stay rooted in compassion. Here is a clip from when Café con Cass was a live show at Cambridge Community Public Access Television with guest Lama Rod Owens. It can be a great tool to use while exploring these questions.
If you’re interested in exploring type of work I am currently booked for organizational clients but taking 1:1 coaching and new contract inquiries now for early 2026.
If you’re a long time supporter who has seen my poems become living things, life changes, moves, struggle and triumph, thanks for tuning in!
