Early 2025, a man found a message in a bottle, one of many in a class of students from Ponce, Puerto Rico who wrote messages to a time that have not seen before. Over the course of week this gentlemen connected messages to place and people, causing a viral sensation that touched the hearts of many.
The sea has a beautiful way of bringing people together. The sea does not have a single country, it touches many. The sea is my inspiration in many ways. It informs the ways I write and live on an island within the archipelago of Puerto Rico, Boriké. It is central to my art and jewelry making. The sea has changed me. I am a better person and surfer for making more time to be with it.
I want to share a little love note with you all and recommend one of my favorite film, ‘Fishpeople: Live Transformed by the Sea’ at Patagonia. When a Boricua friend of mine came to the island and asked for what I wanted I told her a surf hat and she brought me a light teal Patagonia hat, which I love because it is durable gear. My relationships with the sea has transformed over the years but I have always come from her.
I hope that you enjoy the film.
¡Gracias!
