How Much Does a Website Cost to Make?

By

This is a video I have been wanting to make for a very long time and enjoyed filming it. Whether you run a service-based business or are looking to hire someone for a service, this video is for you! Often times folks will learn that I make websites and lead with, “How much?” Before arriving to an estimate there are a variety of considerations, information and assessments that need to take place.

When I was in my media studies program at Harvard University I remember logging onto my Professor’s website. There I noticed an unusual line on her website, “Select clients only” and I thought to myself as a young student who grew up outside of entrepreneurship that this was a snobbish statement. I was wrong and it wasn’t until years later that I truly understood what that phrase meant.

In the content of my practice ‘select client’ means folks who I have the capacity to co-create with and can offer a fair exchange for my skills and services. It also means that I, as a sole proprietor, must understand my limits and how to navigate client expectations and deliver results. After many months of wanting to make this video for myself and others, I sat down to record it from my home office and edit over a long weekend.

These are the themes that came up during filming and preparation:

  • Slowing Down
  • Access Needs
  • Gathering Information
  • Pricing a Website
  • Clarifying your Services
  • Building Relationships
  • Finding Balance
  • Asking Questions
  • Being Transparent
  • Clarifying Questions
  • Gratitude

What are some of the questions you have in regard to building a website? Please comment down below and stay tuned for more videos. I framed this series as an Q&A which excites me as Café con Cass has always been about media that brings dialogue alive on healing, art and culture. Website design is a way that I enjoy being creative and strategic in an increasingly automated world.
